shooting up from town to the forested hills above rivals some of colorado’s best hiking destinations.there aren’t too many places where you can find a 25-mile riverside greenbelt path right outside your hotel room. you’d be even more hard pressed to find city lodging that’s five minutes away from endless hiking trails, biking, and scenic foothills. well, that’s exactly what you get when you visit the city of trees, over 190 miles of expansive, interconnected trails only 5 minutes from your hotel room. you could spend days exploring the ridge to rivers trail system and never hit the same trail twice. i landed in boise seeking simplicity but left delighting in complexity. in idaho’s city of trees, i found 19th-century architecture rubbing muscular shoulders with new bank towers and a gleaming community play space bequeathed by a potato titan. i jogged along the boise river – which is shared by anglers, kayakers and surfers – and pedaled along miles of high-desert trails, missing by one weekend a revered coffee-toting mule. boise is a city big on things like green spaces and bike sharing, where visitors and locals alike spend their free time river rafting and snow tubing down a 244-meter hill in the bogus basin. boise also has a boisterous downtown scene, hosts its fair share of festivals and even has a river running through it that locals like to tube down in summer. a perfect combination of urban and outdoors, boise is a place to have an adventure. whether you’re hiking the lewis and clark discovery trail or chugging through the city on a boise brews cruise, exploration will be a major part of your time here. i still rather prefer the comal river near new braunfels where i lived with my girl friend. i had a friend who lived in san antonio, texas who introduced me to the area who was owned a contracting business. nothing really compares to a lazy day float down the boise river in the heat of summer. good friends on a lazy afternoon, your feet dangling in the cold water, drifting between outstretched trees – that is what a quintessential summer day in boise should look like. many who float the river journey down the stretch between barber park, east of downtown, down to ann morrison park. if you want to experience the sawtooths like the early settlers, then you’ve got to ride out on horseback. redfish lake corrals can take you on an for the first time in a decade or so are in for a pleasant surprise. no longer does the city derisively dubbed “the swamp” by its inhabitant , insular appearance of a white male fiefdom. overlooking
